When you think of Italian decor, what comes to mind? Your home should be your “calling card.” It should bring out your personality. The first place to begin is with the rich Italian color pallet.

Italian Color Pallet

Be sure to view the samples of these colors in the rooms of choice because the lighting in the room can change the final outcome of color.

Amazing Walls

Be creative with your walls and paint them in rich reds, terracotta, or more neutral colors like beige and cream. Add the Italian charm by using a faux finish on your walls. This will create a look like leather, suede, stucco, marble, or plaster.

Beautiful Floors

if you are not looking to replace the flooring in your room now, you can use beautiful area rugs both traditional and modern area rugs that will make a statement. Because there is, a variety of colors to choose from you can purchase a simple area rug that features the colors you want.

Rich Tapestries

Be creative by placing deep colored tapestries in the room. The most popular Italian style includes tapestry that is rich in color. It also features beautiful medieval landscapes as well as gods and goddesses that are mythological. Castles and biblical scenery are also very popular.

Flowing Draperies

Your tapestry should go to the floor in length and it should also allow the light to shine through during the day. You want colorful curtains that are not heavy.

Luxurious Bedding and Upholstery

When choosing your bedding in an Italian themed bedroom, use regular Italian colors that work together. Your bedspread should be velvet or silk as well as the pillows and bed cushions. Tie your Italian-inspired decor in the rest of the room by using upholstered sofas and chairs.

Old World Lighting

For your living and entertainment areas choose black iron or copper light fixtures to hang up in the room.
To outline rooms, use wrought iron candle sconces that hang on the wall. Use large chandeliers as the main light fixture in the larger room because they provide the main light. Use mirrors as well as painting that feature iron as well as steel candelabras.

Renaissance Accessories

When you purchase Italian accessories, make sure that you choose oil paintings with wooden cassoni chests. This is a Renaissance style that will help blend your room perfectly. Decorate walls as well as fireplace mantles with the family coat of arms, family crest or shields whenever possible. This is not always easy to obtain so you may need to improvise there and either purchase a replica or use other Renaissance style decor. Carry the theme outside into your garden by using terracotta water fountains and stone walkways. Mount ceiling medallions in prominent areas, such as the kitchen and living room. You want to use fresh and dried Italian herbs to finish the look in your kitchen. Rosemary, basil, oregano, sage, and parsley will make a great selection. Display them on your kitchen counter areas.
