Decorating For Space: Turning Your Home Into a Spacious Paradise

Creating a spacious home doesn't have to be difficult. Learning to let go of oodles of furniture can be difficult, but in the end, it'll make both you and your home happy and carefree.

There have been several times in my life when, and I hate to admit this but, my house has been a total space hog. I've chosen furniture that doesn't fit-and I mean both size-wise and style-wise, odd-shaped furniture and of course, I have a serious problem without getting rid of any décor whether it fits my interior decorating plans or not. And I know that there are thousands of other people out there who suffer from the same space affliction as I do. But there is a remedy. A few simple tips can turn your space disaster into an organization master.

The closet

If you have a walk in closet, you can put your dresser against the far wall, along with your vanity mirror and a small chair-it makes a great place to get ready and also makes more space in your bedroom for that extra couch you just can't bear to be without. If you have a closet that has no shelving space, you can create it yourself with an interior decorating diy kit or, you can just go to the local hardware store, buy a plastic utility shelf, spray paint it any color you want and slide it right in-this works especially well for kids rooms because you can let them decorate the painted shelf with stickers or sponge stamping.

Anywhere there’s a television, etc.

Flat screen television sets should always be hung on the wall if possible, and your DVD and other players should be cleverly hidden inside a curio table. Regular television sets can also be hung from the wall with special mounting sets. What about the DVDs and CDs? Get rid of the cases and store everything in special binders made to hold DVDs and CDs. These little changes will automatically eliminate the need for a television stand and media stands and opens your home up for a more spacious feel or for more furniture and clutter of another sort, however you decide to play it.

The space you have turned efficient

If your dining room is small like mine you probably store some of your chairs in another room and you probably put a cute bench in their place. News flash: ditch the bench! You thought moving the chairs to another room would make your dining room more efficient and all you did was replace them with something else! While you're at it, pull all of your rugs out from under the stairs-they're for looking at and no one is going to see them down there! Plus, rolling rugs is bad for their appearance and their longevity. Not to mention the fact that they take up more space stored than they do when they're in use! Rugs make a room look full and complete, so they'll also help reduce the clutter, current and future.

Remember, it takes discipline and creativity, but it's not difficult to create a spacious home.
